I picked up this trophy piece at Goodwill and I knew just what I wanted it to look like. We’re friends so you know that I’m not into shiny and perfect. The shine and gloss on this brassy-gold trophy do nothing for me so I thought I would turn it “vintage”. Here is how its done.
First go to Goodwill and pick up a trophy for a few dollars. I’m partial to the “loving cup” like the one above.
Next grab some rubber gloves and a Brillow pad. (I didn’t use gloves, and I felt like I had a thousand tiny paper cuts Yeeeeouch!)

Now get to scrubbin’. Let me tell you this thing had four layers of paint.

So now that you are down to the greenish gold paint grab some medium grit sandpaper.

Now we are going to scratch that trophy up. Give it some character, a past, some life experience.

Now THAT is a trophy. (Thanks Photoshop for the engraving!)

Oh my gosh, I can hardly type through the tears, but thank you, thank you for this award!
I’d like to thank my family and friends who have supported me but I’d especially like to thank Goodwill for the opportunity to shop at their stores…thank you!
Humbly yours,
The Goodwill Gal
