Thrift Haul

Here is what happens when Goodwill has a 50% off sale, and you tell your friend that you will check to see if there are any jeans in her size…..I forgot the jeans…BUT I did find a few things for myself….Am I the only one with this problem?

I found an adorable mixing bowl, two Anthropologie mugs, a few well worn flannel shirts for my son, a pair of Paige jeans for myself, a formal coat for the holidays (Ann Taylor), a cute pine cone candle holder thing, and some cowboy boots for my dad to try…OH! and some extra plates in my china pattern!

I can’t wait to show you how nice it all looks cleaned up and polished!

Umberto the Ring Master

Meet Umberto the Ring Master…..He looks a little menacing with his pencil mustache…but I assure you he is just in it for the candy.  I put together this costume for under $20.00.  If you live in a colder climate you could add heavy sweatpants and it would still look great.

** This little jacket is at Goodwill on Belleview and Parker Road….I just saw it again yesterday!

Sizzlin Summer Trends Contest Week 2: 80′s Style Neon

Thank you so much to those who participated in our very first Sizzlin Summer Trends Contest.  We loved your western wear!  This week we are moving on to 1980′s fashion.  Ahhh everything comes back around again.  Okay,  let’s all promise that no one puts all of this neon together because that is just asking for a Punky Brewster moment!  I can’t wait to see what you have up your neon sleeve this week.  Show me your stuff Denver!

Just in case you need a reminder, here’s how the contest works: Head to Goodwill and snag your very own stylish ’80′s neon clothes, then upload a photo of your great finds to Goodwill’s Facebook page. Every week we’ll have a new trend for you to try. Post your finds weekly, and at the end of July a winner will be chosen to receive a $50 shopping spree at Goodwill with me as your personal shopper!

Goodwill Glamour

I saw this image of a beautifully distressed white table in Country Living Magazine. The funny thing is that it was “The Bargain Edition”. According to the article it came from Pottery Barn, so I went online and looked it up.

Image from Pottery Barn
See this cute table? It will set you back $999.00. Is that a bargain? Ok, well it didn’t set ME back $1,000.00. (My husband would have sent me back if it did.)

Or you could go to your nearest Goodwill and pick up a very similar table for $19.99. Both prices have lots of 9′s in them, but going to Goodwill will save you $979.01.

I roughed up the top with 100 grit sandpaper. You are just taking the shine off of the top…don’t go too crazy. Use a tack cloth to wipe up ALL of the dust.

I took out the leaves because I wanted a round table. I kept them so I can always add them later. Open up the table and use a spray primer. I used a few light coats, drying each one in between. (It’s a good time to fold laundry!)

Do all of the pieces and make sure you keep all of the nuts and screws together!!

I used antique white spray paint. I probably used 3 or 4 cans. I don’t have a paint sprayer, so this was my best option! Then I realized that I should do the entire underside so it looks white all over AND under.

I distressed the edges by rolling the table through gravel. Easy. I used sandpaper to distress the legs and base. Once it was all distressed, I lightly sprayed white over most of it, so it will look like layers of paint.

All dressed up for an al fresco dessert. Ok, it looks like a table for one, but that is not the case! I plan on adding all different styles of chairs. Hmmm, I wonder where I can find mismatched chairs…..

Not bad for $20.00 and a few cans of spray paint!!

Baby Shower Anyone?

I’ve noticed an abundance of baby vases lately.  It is amazing how once something catches your attention you keep seeing them over and over.  I started collecting them one by one so I could put a beautiful baby shower table scape.  Am I hosting a baby shower,  no….(that rarely stops me from collecting things!) but I thought you might like so see how you can incorporate Goodwill finds into your party planning budget!    Some pieces are vintage and some are new.  I love the pastel colors, and once you group them together, it makes a beautiful centerpiece.   The vases came from the Goodwill store on Parker Road and Belleview.

I found this vase at the new Fort Morgan Goodwill. What do you collect?

Cake Plates

I love cake plates, and cake for that matter.  Goodwill always has a changing supply of cake plates, pedestals,  glass covers, and all sorts of fun bakery items to  collect.  What is your favorite thing to collect?

Are you an Anglophile?

Don’t get all offended! It’s the love of all things British……sheeshhh get a dictionary! While I was off looking for props to use for my Not So Royal Wedding, I came across some AMAZING pieces ALL at local Goodwill stores (I shopped in 5 different stores over the span of two weeks)…here are some of them to look through.

A Palace Guard Souvenir mug….
TG Green Gripstand Pottery in two sizes. Made in England.
Buckingham Palace Souvenir mug…..Save yourself some money…don’t worry about visiting London, just buy your souvenirs at Goodwill!

Ok! My First Burberry Purchase! Eeeeeeee, even I was surprised! I have heard about the elusive Burberry Trench Coats showing up at Goodwill…..but I have yet to come across one!I even found this book of Royal Manners written by Princess Diana’s butler.  I’m telling you….you just have to look around!

Really cute top with a bedazzled crown over the Union Jack….Not bad for $3.49! What have you found lately?   EVERYTHING came from the Belleview and Parker Road Goodwill…I love that one!  I even got “recognized” from the blog the other day…..see I really do all my own shopping!

Sneaky Peaky

I was fortunate enough to get a tour of the Brand New Fort Morgan Goodwill store!  It opens this Saturday May 14th.  You better be first in line because there are some amazing treasures awaiting.   To celebrate, ALL Denver area Goodwill stores will be 50% OFF this Saturday!   Don’t miss out!

Soooo light, bright, clean and organized…..I can’t wait!
